Seal materials which comply with industry regulations

The materials we use in our seals meet a wide variety of industry regulations, while providing tried and tested performance under manufacturing conditions and stringent cleaning regimes. Working at the forefront of standard development within a number of regulatory committees enables us to quickly adapt to new developments and provide our customers with a competitive edge.

 Our seal materials comply with the following certifications and authorities:

• Deutsches Institut für Normung (DIN) EN 549 and EN 14241-1 (Germany): Sets standards for rubber materials for seals and diaphragms used in gas appliances, gas equipment and flue systems.
• Deutscher Verein des Gas- und Wasserfaches e.V. (DVGW) W270 (Germany): Sets tests for microbial growth enhancement of non-metallic materials In contact with drinking water.
• Umweltbundesamt (UBA) KTW (Germany): Includes a list of approved starting elastomers, test methods and limits for values obtained.
• Food & Drug Administration (FDA) CFR 177.2600 (USA): Sections cover requirements for many different polymeric materials, such as section 2600 for rubber materials, in which “positive lists” describe the allowable substances and limitations as well as extraction tests.
• National Science Foundation (NSF) ANSI 61 (USA): Defines the levels of contaminants and impurities that can be leached from elastomer components.
• Water Regulations Advisory Scheme (WRAS) BS 6920 (UK): Two tests related to odor, flavor and taste of water and three tests that examine leachable chemicals and growth of microorganisms.
• Ministerial Decree 174 (DM-174) (Italy): A white-list of elastomer materials for base compounding and tests, including leachable contaminant migration and immersion testing.
• Bundesministerium für Gesundheit ÖNORM B 5014-1 (Austria): Testing regimes and requirements for products in contact with drinking water, and a list of pre-approved materials.
